Memphis Water Damage GuideNotes for wet Memphis houses

For Memphis and Shelby County homeowners

Water damage help for Memphis houses
Humidity will finish what the leak started.

Midtown bungalows sit over crawlspaces. July air is wet enough that a slow bath leak becomes a musty floor in a few days. Write down the source, the rooms, and whether the water came from the sky, a pipe, or a drain.

ALL GUIDES

Six Memphis guides.

Written for Shelby County houses: humidity, crawlspaces, and storms. Not a coastal-flood pamphlet with the city name swapped.

WHY A MEMPHIS GUIDE

River humidity, pier-and-beam houses, hard summers.

Memphis sits by the Mississippi, with the Wolf River bottoms on the city’s mind every time a low lot floods. The everyday water-damage call is often smaller: a crawlspace under a Central Gardens or Cooper-Young bungalow, a plaster ceiling after a thunderstorm, or wind-driven rain. Summers stay humid, so wet materials do not get a long grace period. Restoration firms may cite industry training; that is not the same thing as a plumbing license if a pipe failed. Shelby County and the City of Memphis are not a substitute for reading your own policy.

QUICK ANSWERS

Common Memphis questions

Is this a restoration company?

No. Memphis Water Damage Guide is information only. We do not dry houses, remove materials, or file claims.

Why do crawlspaces come up so often?

A lot of older Memphis houses are pier-and-beam. The crawlspace is where a tub leak, a sweating line, or poor drainage shows up first. You should not crawl into standing water to verify it.

Will mold grow faster here than in a dry climate?

Warm, humid air gives wet drywall less time. Health agencies talk about growth starting within a day or two on materials that stay wet. Drying and removing what stayed wet matters more than a scented spray.

Does a restoration company replace a plumber?

No. If a supply line or drain failed, ask for a licensed plumber on that part of the work. Drying the plaster is a different task.
